Hey Questers,

Hope u all r doing good.

So here is the list of top 5 free transcript services that can be used live or for recorded data.! Which can help us in daily life.!!

Recent advancements in generative AI have made our lives easier by revolutionising the way we carry out busywork such as reading emails, editing videos, writing content, and more. One such rote task that has been significantly automated by AI is the transcription of audio recordings of interviews, meetings, lectures, etc.

A transcription service is a business service that converts speech (either live or recorded) into a written or electronic text document. Transcription services are often provided for business, legal, or medical purposes. The most common type of transcription is from a spoken-language source into text.

However, generative AI offerings are rarely available for free of charge because developing models and using them to process data takes time as well as other resources. Nevertheless, here are five of the best, no-cost transcription services to use the next time you need to effortlessly convert an audio recording to text.

Google Recorder

The Google Recorder is an Android app that is available to users for free. Besides transcriptions, the app offers additional features such as AI-generated summaries of transcripts. It even transcribes specific sounds that are part of the audio such as laughter or music.

Whisper

This free to use, audio-to-text tool has been developed by ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. Users have the choice of either uploading a recorded audio file for transcription or speaking directly into their device’s microphone. Once that’s done, the AI model gets to work and starts transcribing the audio on the other side of the window. Whisper is also capable of translating audio of a different language into English. Users can directly access Whisper through the web app hosted on AI developer platform Hugging Face. Alternatively, you can download and install Whisper on your computer if it is capable of running AI applications locally.

Otter

While Otter is a paid transcription service, users can transcribe 300 minutes of audio for free every month. Only three audio uploads are allowed and 30 minutes per conversation are allowed in the free tier.

Besides converting audio to text, Otter also lets users edit transcripts, create summaries, identify multiple speakers, and integrate the service with third-party apps. It is available for use on the web or through a mobile app that is easy to navigate.

Happy Scribe

With Happy Scribe’s basic free plan, users can transcribe ten minutes of audio. However, the drawback is that they cannot export the transcribed files without opting for an upgrade which costs $17 a month.

The benefits of using Happy Scribe are that transcriptions of recordings come with speaker labels and time stamps, making them easier to review and edit. Like Whisper, Happy Scribe also has a built-in translation tool as well as a custom dictionary for users to add words that might not be transcribed by the AI model. It also enables human-powered transcription for paid users.
