This material has been engineered to deliver the best combination of performance, safety, and cost when compared to lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4)-based LIBs and sodium-ion batteries (NIBs). The new KIB operates at a voltage of 3.7V and has demonstrated a practical path to achieving a gravimetric energy density of 160-180 Wh/kg, which is on par with current LFP-LIB standards.


The 18650 format, widely recognized and utilized across various industries, ensures that this new battery can be seamlessly integrated into existing manufacturing processes. The cells utilize commercial-grade graphite anodes, separators, and electrolyte formulations, all sourced from commercially available components. This approach not only enhances the battery's cycle life and discharge capability but also ensures a smooth transition for manufacturers looking to adopt this new technology.

While the KIB's performance, with a gravimetric energy density of 160-180 Wh/kg, aligns with current LFP-LIB standards, it still lags behind some of the latest advancements in lithium-ion technology, such as CATL's Shenxing Plus batteries, which achieve up to 205 Wh/kg. However, the KIB's advantages in sustainability, cost, and safety make it a strong contender in the energy storage market, particularly in applications where these factors are prioritized over sheer energy density.
