Hey Questers,

While browsing youtube i have found video about this cool tech. So I'm here to share with you all.....!

Let's get started.....

On May 7th, 2019

Germany has introduced its first electrified highway near Frankfurt, featuring overhead power lines that can charge hybrid trucks while they drive. This innovative system, developed by German conglomerate Siemens in 2012, covers a 6.2-mile (10 km) stretch of the autobahn.

How it works:

Overhead Cables: The highway features overhead power lines, similar to those seen over rail tracks. These cables provide electricity to hybrid trucks as they drive.

Charging on the Go: When a hybrid truck travels on this electrified stretch of the autobahn, it can charge its batteries by connecting to the overhead lines. The charging process occurs while the truck is moving at speeds of up to 56 mph (90 km/h).

Sensor Integration: The trucks are equipped with sensors that detect the presence of overhead cables. If no cables are available, the truck switches back to its combustion engine.

Emission Reduction: This innovative system aims to reduce carbon emissions in areas where traditional railways are not feasible. Additionally, it can save up to 20,000 euros worth of fuel for every truck covering 62,000 miles (100,000 km) .

In order for trucks to connect to the eHighway, Siemens designed a new extendable power coupler that automatically extends from the top of the vehicle, connecting to the overhead power lines when their presence is detected. When they have to leave the power lines, the trucks switch to electric batteries or diesel power to continue their journey. The coupler can also easily disconnect if a truck needs to overtake a slow vehicle and then quickly reconnect when the truck is back on its electrified lane. According to the Siemens, eHighway is twice as efficient as internal combustion engines, cutting energy consumption and local air pollution.

The 670-Volt direct-current cables are supposed to shut down automatically if severed accidentally, and during winter an anti-icing system should keep them operable. Two other similar tests are underway at Kuppenheim in southern Baden Wurttemberg and at Lubeck in northern Schleswig Holstein state.

With all this safety measures, able to operate successfully, and also testing on different regions and countries. They have completed testing till 2022.

Let's hope this gonna adapted by all the countries and make transportation sustainable.
