Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has made digital transactions very simple, allowing people to send and receive money instantly. However, with this convenience comes the risk of scams. Fraudsters are finding ways to take advantage of UPI users.
1. You Don't Need a UPI PIN to Receive Money
If someone calls you saying you’ve won a prize and asks for your UPI PIN to transfer the money, be careful. You never need to enter your PIN to receive money. A UPI PIN is only required for sending money. If you share it, scammers may steal your money.
2. Fake Money Transfers
Sometimes, scammers send a message saying that they accidentally transferred money to your account and ask for it back. Before returning the money, always check your bank account to confirm if the amount was really deposited. Scammers often use fake messages to make you believe the money was sent.
3. Beware of Fake UPI Apps
Some scammers use fake UPI apps that look real. These apps may even show a "payment successful" message after scanning a QR code, but no money is actually transferred. Always check your bank account to verify any payments.
Never share your UPI PIN with anyone.
Always double-check payment amounts and the recipient before sending money.
Use only trusted UPI apps from official app stores.
By being aware of these scams, you can protect yourself from losing money to online fraud. Stay cautious, and always verify before making any UPI transactions.
