Concerns that original Until Dawn might get delisted due to remake redundancy & issues with new version.
Some users saw original game as "not available for purchase" on PS Store, sparking worry among fans.
Fans hope Sony doesn't remove original title.
Some PlayStation fans are concerned that the original Until Dawn might get delisted. Until Dawn's remake was released in early October 2024 to mixed reviews. While many fans were happy to be able to experience Until Dawn on a new platform, some thought that it was an unnecessary one, especially since the old game still holds up to this day. However, many fans have praised the game's visuals, as the look has certainly improved from the title's first release.
Most of the concern with the remake lies in the redundancy it brings. With an Until Dawn movie also currently in the works, this has caused fans to worry that the new title might not bring anything new to the table story-wise. While no script has been leaked for the upcoming film, it is expected to follow the games' plot. Although this may also be the reason why fans are worried about the original's delisting
According to some users, the PlayStation Store shows the original Until Dawn as not available for purchase in some countries and regions. However, the US did not experience this issue. Many assumed that this was just a bug. However, some believed that Sony was phasing out the original title. As the new Until Dawn offers a few changes, including a new prologue and a more open-ended epilogue, several fans thought that the team was distancing from the original title.
While there hasn't been an official confirmation from Sony, some users who have seen the "not available for purchase" message were able to buy the game as they searched for it using a PlayStation 4 or a PlayStation 5 console. With the games sharing the same title, a few speculations were made that there could have been some conflict that was unresolved. The old game was recently renamed to Until Dawn 2015, although it's quite possible that some internal coding may have caused this issue. Given the history of the PS Store's bugs and errors, a coding problem may be to blame.
Hopefully, Sony doesn't delist the original title as the new version is experiencing some problems. The Until Dawn remake is struggling on PC, with the port experiencing lots of performance issues. Some have even reported that graphical glitches are a constant occurrence, which bothers many players. Taking away what many consider a superior, albeit outdated, version of the game may cause negative press, so Ballistic Moon should take note of this should it consider delisting the original. Fans will have to wait for confirmation on whether the removal of the original game was intentional or just an accidental glitch.
