Google is reportedly working on a dedicated Gemini button on the Android lock screen. This button will provide users with quick access to the Gemini chatbot without needing to unlock their devices.
The button is expected to be similar to the Gemini icon, but could also relate to artificial intelligence (AI) in general. It is likely to be placed towards the bottom of the lock screen, just underneath the fingerprint sensor.
Tapping the button will reportedly trigger the Gemini virtual assistant and offer a newer way to activate the AI-powered chatbot.
Google is testing a non-functional button on the lock screen which is hidden within the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2. According to a report by Android Authority, that may be designed for Gemini. The button, features a sparkle icon commonly associated with AI and is expected to provide quick access to generative AI features.
While the button's exact purpose remains unclear, it may be a testing ground for features in the upcoming Android 16 release. This new version of Android is expected to include UI changes and new AI capabilities.
A lock screen button would offer a more prominent and convenient way to launch the AI assistant. By increasing accessibility and visibility, Google aims to encourage wider adoption and usage of its generative AI technology.
