Instagram's new "Add" button lets you add songs to your Spotify 'Liked' playlist

Social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube and TikTok have popularised short-form videos. Now, Instagram is copying a feature from TikTok that lets users add a song, from other people’s posts, reels and shorts to their Spotify playlist.

In a recent post on X, Instagram announced that it is rolling out the feature to everyone. This is really handy if you listen to a new song on Instagram and want to quickly add it to your Spotify playlist without having to leave the app.

How to add a song from Instagram to Spotify?

To add a song you listened to in an Instagram reel, post or story, tap on its name and on the screen that appears, you will find an “Add” button with a Spotify icon on the right side of the audio player.

Click on it and Instagram will ask if you want to link your Instagram profile to Spotify. Tap on ‘Link Spotify’ and the song will automatically be added to your Spotify-like playlist.

However, unlike TikTok and other social media platforms, which allow users to add their favourite songs to multiple music streaming platforms, Instagram only features Spotify integration, which might not be useful if you use a different music streaming service like YouTube Music.

Instagram has been constantly adding several new features in the last few weeks. Some of the newly added functionalities include a new customisable Profile Card and AI video features for advertisers on the platform.
