Many people should be aware of a feature in their mobiles called NFC.

Some people may be unaware of that. NFC means Near-field communication.

NFC is a technology that allows mobile devices to communicate and exchange data with other devices that are nearby. Here are some ways you can use NFC on your mobile device:

  • Pair devices: NFC can help you pair devices to connect to peripherals or share files.
  • Access control: NFC can be used for access control systems to allow secure entry.
  • Make payments: NFC allows you to make secure, contactless payments by tapping your phone on a payment terminal.
  • Share data: You can use NFC to share digital content or information with other devices.
  • Connect to devices: NFC can help you connect to other devices wirelessly, such as room keys.
  • Interact with RFID-enabled cards: You can use NFC to interact with cards that have microchips, such as transit cards.

Today let's see how to make payments with NFC through Google Pay!

You can add, remove, or update your credit and debit cards in your Google Pay account.

Important: The “Add credit or debit cards'' feature is available for Android devices only. If you can't find this option, update your Google Pay app.

Step 1:

On your mobile device, open the Google Pay app.

Step 8:

Tap Continue.

  • Verify your identity with a one-time password (OTP).
  • Important: The verification code or OTP is sent through text to the phone number connected with your Google Pay account. If you don’t receive the OTP, check if your contact information is correct. If your contact information is up-to-date, contact your bank.
  • OTP can be autofilled or entered manually.

Step 9

Tap Submit.

  • If you don't receive a confirmation, check your card information and try again.
  • If your card is verified, it's ready to be used for transactions.
  • In Google Pay's “Payment methods” section, you can find all your added cards.

And that's it! You just added your credit/debit card to your Google Pay to make Wireless Tap and Pay transactions!

Try it out with a POS machine at your local store by turning on NFC and taping at the Tap and Pay icon on the machine.

Also make sure to turn on NFC before making a transaction and don't forget to select Google Pay as your default Contactless payments app.

After taping your phone on the POS machine, you'll get a confirmation of the payment on the screen. Sometimes, it asks you to verify your identity before making payment. Then you need to give your Fingerprint or phone PIN to make the transaction.

You can also make Wireless Tap and Pay transaction with Paytm too! The steps for paytm are similar as Google Pay.
