The League of Legends Worlds 2024 featured an intense semifinal between two of China's top teams, Weibo Gaming (WBG) and Bilibili Gaming (BLG). The stakes were high, with the winner advancing to the grand finals. BLG, the favorites, proved themselves as the dominant force, taking the series in a clean sweep and securing a place in the final match.
Most fans had BLG as the favorites in this clash, and they lived up to the hype. In a 3-0 sweep, BLG dominated Weibo Gaming and earned their spot in the grand final—a revenge match after their close miss at Worlds 2023. Although WBG put up some impressive fights, BLG consistently found ways to capitalize on key moments, scaling their champions effectively and seizing every opportunity.
While each game had a close start, BLG's strength became more apparent in the later stages. Notably, Game 1 featured the latest First Blood of the entire 2024 World Championship, highlighting just how competitive these matches were. BLG now awaits the winner of the second semifinal, T1 vs. Gen.G, for an epic showdown in the grand final.
The first game began with a balanced exchange of objectives. BLG claimed two Dragons and the first turret, while WBG secured five Voidgrubs and the Rift Herald. At the 19-minute mark, BLG secured the First Blood, marking the latest in the tournament so far.
WBG answered back with a strong fight around the Drake, securing a Dragon and taking out four BLG champions. Although WBG claimed Baron shortly afterward, they couldn't capitalize much, losing a teammate in the process as BLG tightened their control. BLG's clever draft, including a scaled-up Smolder champion, gave them the advantage, allowing them to break down WBG's defenses and push toward the Nexus for a Game 1 victory.
To counter BLG's strategy, WBG banned Smolder and Yone. BLG brought out Syndra for mid-lane, while WBG went with an unconventional Elise pick for the jungle. The match saw fast-paced action early on, with BLG punishing Light for an early misstep and both teams trading kills frequently.
As WBG accumulated early kills and gold, they slowed down, allowing BLG to catch up. WBG's third Dragon and Baron seemed like a potential turning point, but BLG's strong teamfight tactics paid off, leading them to secure an Ace and eventually destroy WBG's Nexus. BLG was now one game away from the grand finals.
For Game 3, WBG switched up their draft, opting for Ezreal and Maokai. BLG, on the other hand, retained strong picks like Akali, Jax, and Skarner. The game began with a one-for-one trade before both teams shifted focus to farming.
Despite WBG's best efforts, BLG took control of objectives and secured three Voidgrubs early. With strategic moves and coordinated fights, BLG won key battles and closed the series with another dominating performance. With the final victory, BLG advanced to the Worlds 2024 grand final.
The grand final of LoL Worlds 2024 is set for November 2, with BLG facing the winner of the T1 vs. Gen.G semifinal . The next semifinal showdown happens today at 6:30 PM.
