#Review Maverick - IQOO 12 EDITION

Figure 1, view larger image

In this thread I'll share my entire experience with IQOO 12 as I'm using it since the launch day.

I was earlier going to purchase the Iqoo 11 but I was not satisfied with storage options only being limited to 256gb so I waited until IQOO 12 launch and then purchased it on day 1. I was a prebook buyer

Figure 2, view larger image

I got free Vivo TWS with my IQOO 12 as a reward for being a prebook buyer

Figure 3, view larger image

My phone was delivered within 3 days of purchase and i activated it on December 15 , 2023.

Reasons why I picked Iqoo 12 over Iqoo 11

1) 512gb storage option

2) Better design and build quality

3) 8 gen 3

4) Q1 chip having dedicated features for the             game I love playing.

5 ) Dedicated dual stereo speakers

Now let's share my experience

As soon as I unboxed the phone and set it up I had to run benchmarks on it

Figure 7, view larger image

I ran multiple benchmarks including Antutu , Geekbench , CPU throttling test

Here are the results from the Day 1 of unboxing

Antutu

I was pretty impressed with the stability of device and it was suitable for long running intensive tasks.

During its launch IQOO 12 had already built up its reputation against its competitors

Iqoo 12 had thinner bezels than iphone 15 pro max

Figure 12, view larger image

IQOO 12 beat OnePlus 12 in geekbench 6

IQOO 12 beat OnePlus 12 in CPU throttle tests

Figure 14, view larger image

IQOO 12 Even beat its own parent brand Vivo X100 pro  which was using the Flagship dimensity 9300

It was clear to me even before buying that no android can come close to this level of stability and sustained performance. I had to buy it

Camera reviews

Figure 16, view larger image

I have tested this phone intensively and you can see my various camera samples under the following threads

My opinion -

I've noticed this in the main lens and the periscope lens both cannot focus close range objects as their focal length is high and designed for far range objects this makes me miss a dedicated macro lens in Iqoo 12. I hope it will be added in future flagship models.

Some camera samples below and the links for my Photo threads.

Gaming review can't be complete without mentioning the Q1 chip

Super resolution mode

Figure 27, view larger image

The super resolution mode offers a boost upto 900p in the game Genshin Impact while without the mode it only runs at 720p there is obvious difference in the Clarity as seen below.

The left image is with super resolution turned on and you can see the difference for yourself

Figure 28, view larger image

Not just characters it boosts game environment as well. Here the top image is with super resolution turned on

Figure 29, view larger image

My opinion - The super resolution mode is pretty good and can run without drained additional battery but it can cause heat generation and will automatically turn off if the device temperature crosses a certain limit.

Game frame interpolation - in my personal experience game frame interpolation makes the game look very smooth but there is increased latency and character lag so I would recommend not to use in competitive games like Call of Duty mobile or BGMi where every millisecond counts

Figure 30, view larger image

All games I play I set them to maximum graphics settings and IQOO 12 has no trouble running them.

Charging

IQOO 12 supports 120 watt charging and has a 5000 mah graphite battery that is rated for 1600 battery cycles to drop to 80 percent battery health.

Figure 37, view larger image

My opinion

Figure 38, view larger image

I have been using this device since December 15 and today is October 28. It has been almost 10 months and I have charged this phone atleast 2 to 3 times daily. Not because the battery life is bad but because I use it too much.

Still the battery life has only dropped to 93% which is impressive

I suggest you to keep fast charging option off as even if you turn it on there is only a 4 minute difference in charging to 100 percent. If you turn it on it will ignore the heat limits and will charge fast regardless of the phone heating. I don't think its worth sacrificing your battery health over 4 minutes as heat can damage battery health and internal components

Vapour chamber

Figure 39, view larger image

Iqoo boasts a larger vapour chamber than its predecessor and it helps spread the heat out faster

To understand how vapour chambers work check out my thread

https://community.iqoo.com/in/thread/68508

My opinion

Since the phone has a glass back and metal frame you'll notice the frame getting hotter than the back as heat escapes easier through metal than glass.

Storage and Ram

Figure 40, view larger image

For a user like me even 2TB of storage would be less considering how much I use my device but for the average user having UFS 4.0 storage and 512gb is more than enough to last 3 to 4 years

My opinion - the read write speed is very fast and i face no lag in data transfer and loading large files. The biggest advantage of a fast storage is that the phone can render Games faster and load environments and graphics faster so the storage does hold back the phone from unleashing it's true potential.

Software Experience

Figure 41, view larger image

By Default Iqoo 12 comes with Android 14 and will get a support of 3 years of Major android updates and 4 years of Security patches

My opinion -

Figure 42, view larger image

I would like to thank IQOO that they made a wonderful decision to remove Hot apps and Hot games. It is the first step to making the software experience bloatware free. Although it is not perfect yet, there are more bloatware apps in the UI which by default can sadden the user experience but u can turn off their notification and disable their permissions.

Few things I like about Funtouch os 14

1) inbuilt photo and Video editor in Gallery App

Figure 43, view larger image

This removes the need to install additional softwares. You can also make PPTs and PDFs from the albums app.

2) Kinetic wallpapers

Figure 44, view larger image

These are a very intuitive way to make people like me make a healthy choice and walk more to promote fitness. It is also eye pleasing and give you a sense of motivation and satisfaction when you finish your daily step goal

3) Mini window

Figure 45, view larger image

This feature maybe useful for multi tasking and as gamer it helps me play games while opening up guides on Google when I'm stuck on a level

Figure 46, view larger image

Here's a few things I hope Iqoo will add in the Funtouch OS

1) FPS Meter

Figure 47, view larger image

I have hopes Iqoo will add it in the future as it allows us to monitor phone performance and help us decide which graphics settings to use to get the most stable fps.

2) Dolby Audio support

Figure 48, view larger image

Many games like Call of Duty mobile support Dolby Audio for ingame matches which can help us get a better surround sound experience and Find opponents.

Figure 49, view larger image

Moving onto the next features

Speakers

Figure 50, view larger image

IQOO 12 supports dedicated stereo speakers on the top and bottom of the frame

My opinion -

The speakers are adequately loud but the bass at higher volumes is a bit lacking. Although the hardware inside both speakers is identical, the sound output from the bottom speaker dominates the top speaker in terms of volume.

Having a dedicated top speaker instead of just using the calling speaker makes the stereo audio effect better when gaming like detecting footsteps and directions of enemies.

4D game vibration

Figure 51, view larger image

For me this is the best part about the Device that most phones don't have. Each haptic feedback let's me know when I crash my car and when I shoot bullets at the enemies.

I have even set the haptic feedback in settings to strong to increase the immersive experience

Figure 52, view larger image

Although not all games support 4D game vibration but it is a welcome feature nonetheless.

Figure 53, view larger image

Using this feels like using a dedicated PC or Ps5 controller which is awesome.

Connectivity

Figure 54, view larger image

IQOO 12 Sports 11 5g band support in india and Wifi 7 support.

Another cool thing is the Wifi 6 support for Wifi hotspot. This helps me get fast internet speeds in my laptop when I'm using IQOO 12 as a hotspot  and there are no ping issues in online games as both my phone and laptop support wifi 6

Figure 55, view larger image

My opinion

Even though I don't live in the best area I have had no issues with getting 5g signals and download speeds. One thing I noticed with the UI behaviour is that it switches to 4g connection when there is no data usage to save battery but as soon as you start to use data it switches back into 5g mode. This prevents IQOO 12 from having battery drop in standby mode which is Awesome.

That's all for my review for the IQOO 12 and my entry for the Review Maverick category
