Device: iQOO Neo 6

After two years of using the iQOO Neo 6, here's a long-term review that reflects on its durability, performance, and value:

Design and Build Quality

  • Durability: Despite its plastic back and frame, the iQOO Neo 6 has held up remarkably well. The frosted back resisted most scratches, and though it has some minor scuffs, it still looks modern. Regular use, including occasional drops, hasn't caused significant damage, making it a reliable choice for the long haul.  I must say the build quality is top notch for this device.
  • Aesthetics: The design, though a bit dated by current standards, remains attractive. The weight and overall feel still make it comfortable for daily use.

Display

  • Quality: The 6.62-inch AMOLED display continues to shine. Colors are vibrant, and the 120Hz refresh rate remains smooth and responsive. Even after two years, there's no noticeable degradation in brightness or clarity, and it holds up well for gaming, streaming, and general use.
  • Burn-in: There's minimal screen burn-in, which is a common issue nowadays with some AMOLED displays, but iQOO had a good track record and I did not see any screen related issue so the longevity of this screen is commendable.

Performance

  • Processor & RAM: The Snapdragon 870 is aging gracefully. It still handles multitasking, gaming, and even newer apps without significant lag. With 8GB of RAM, switching between apps remains fluid, and the performance hasn't degraded drastically. Regular updates have kept the device feeling relatively fresh.
  • Gaming: For gaming, it continues to deliver a smooth experience on popular titles like PUBG and Call of Duty, even though newer processors are on the market. The Ultra Game Mode is still effective at managing heat and maintaining performance during longer gaming sessions.

Software and Updates

  • OS: Originally shipped with Android 12 and Funtouch OS 12, the iQOO Neo 6 received frequent updates, currently running on Android 14 and . The OS remains stable and relatively clutter-free, but some pre-installed apps are still persistent.

  • Updates: Security updates have slowed down, which is expected after two years, but the phone remains functional and safe for everyday use. The interface is now a bit behind newer models, lacking some fresh software features seen in recent devices.

Camera

  • Primary Camera: The 64MP main camera still takes good photos in well-light conditions, though newer devices in the same price range are catching up in camera quality. Low-light performance has seen a minor dip, but with OIS, it still captures usable shots with a fair amount of detail.
  • Secondary Cameras: The ultra-wide and macro cameras are functional but show their age. These are best suited for casual photography, as newer devices offer better quality in this department.
  • Selfies: The 16MP front camera still captures good selfies. While not cutting-edge, it is adequate for social media and general use.

Battery and Charging

  • Battery Health: After two years, the 4,700mAh battery is slightly reduced in capacity but still offers decent longevity. It comfortably lasts a full day with moderate usage, though heavy users may notice the need to charge sooner than before.
  • Charging Speed: The 80W FlashCharge remains one of the highlights. The phone charges incredibly fast, so even with some battery degradation, it's easy to top up quickly.

Audio and Other Features

  • Audio: The single speaker holds up well but feels limited compared to stereo setups now common even on budget phones. Still, it's loud and clear enough for videos and casual listening.
  • Haptics and Connectivity: Haptics remain satisfying, and 5G connectivity has proven valuable as networks expand.

Final Thoughts: Worth It After Two Years?

After two years, the iQOO Neo 6 is still a solid performer. Its combination of high-speed charging, enduring performance, and a vibrant display makes it a dependable device. While its camera and software support may feel dated compared to newer phones, it's held up impressively well.

For users prioritizing performance and a fast-charging experience, it continues to offer great value—even after two years of happy usage.
