T1 has achieved an incredible milestone, winning their fifth League of Legends World Championship title! In an intense showdown, they defeated Bilibili Gaming 3-2, making history in the gaming world.
This victory cements Lee"Faker"Sang-hyeok's position as a legend in esports. Already the only player to have won four world titles after T1's 2023 victory, Faker has now extended his record to an unmatched five championships. This impressive feat further solidifies his status in the competitive League of Legends scene, with no other player close to achieving such a record.
Going into the finals, T1 held a flawless record against LPL teams in best-of-five series at Worlds, a streak they maintained in 2024. Meanwhile, Bilibili Gaming (BLG) had also never lost a best-of-five series to T1 internationally, defeating them 3-2 earlier this year at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI). However, the Worlds 2024 final changed this narrative, as T1 finally broke BLG's hold.
How T1 Triumphed Over BLG: A Game-by-Game Breakdown
In Game 1, T1 chose Yone in the mid-lane and Caitlyn for their bot lane, a unique pick in this tournament. BLG, on the other hand, assembled a strong front-to-back team composition featuring Ashe, Skarner, and Rumble. They quickly gained control, using Ashe's abilities to consistently pick off T1 players. BLG broke through T1's base in just 18 minutes, securing a dominant 27-minute win.
In Game 2, T1 shifted tactics, opting for Kalista and Nocturne. They aimed for aggressive plays, and it paid off. T1 took control early, securing a six-kill lead by mid-game. The turning point came during a fight near the top river where T1's Ornn and Renata Glasc perfectly executed a combo that devastated BLG. T1 won this game decisively, evening the series 1-1.
Switching sides, BLG started Game 3 on blue, denying T1 the Kalista pick and selecting a well-coordinated team composition. BLG executed strong rotations, securing seven kills to zero. A daring teleport from T1 failed, and BLG closed out the game in 27 minutes to take the lead in the series.
With their tournament life on the line, T1 blind-picked Sylas in the mid-lane, despite counter-picks from BLG. In a crucial mid-game fight, Faker's Sylas took over, eliminating BLG's key players. T1 gained control of the game, securing the Chemtech Dragon Soul and forcing a deciding Game 5.
Both teams went all out in Game 5. T1 banned Kalista, allowing BLG's Bin to pick Jax, while T1's Zeus secured Gragas, a favorite choice for him. BLG took the first blood for the fifth game in a row, but this time, they were more cautious, aiming to build their late-game strength.
After a tense 25 minutes, a decisive fight broke out where Faker's Galio initiated with a perfect ultimate, turning the battle in T1's favor. A second critical team fight allowed T1 to eliminate four of BLG's players and secure the championship.
T1's victory not only adds to their storied legacy but also makes Faker's record even more legendary. This fifth world title solidifies his place as the most successful player in League of Legends history. The 2024 championship win for T1 proves they remain a dominant force in the League of Legends world.
