On clicking on a chat or a message on the app, the entire screen turns green.

Testing an early version of a software or an app does come with the risk of experiencing bugs. It now looks like WhatsApp beta testers are stuck with a major bug that is making their devices unresponsive by turning the entire display into a green screen.

The WhatsApp beta version 2.24.24.5 for Android is causing this issue, and the entire screen becomes green as soon as a user clicks on a chat or a message.

Don’t get confused by green lines, which are permanent damage on smartphones with OLED screens, where a single line of LEDs turns green. In this case, when a user tries to open WhatsApp, the entire screen turns green until they close the app.

Fortunately, there is no such issue on the stable version of WhatsApp. Also, this bug is only affecting Android users, as no iOS WhatsApp beta testers have reported this issue.

How to resolve the WhatsApp green screen issue

If you can wait, Meta should release an update that should patch the bug. However, as of now, there is no confirmation on the same as there is no urgency considering the issue is in the beta build.

For now, moving out of beta testing is the best solution. However, some users who are downgrading from the beta version to the stable version are still facing the same issue. Another easy way to tackle this issue is using WhatsApp on companion devices, say a laptop, tablet, or an iPhone.

If even that doesn’t work, you can always delete WhatsApp and install the latest stable version. Before doing that, make sure your messages are backed up on Google Cloud. Else, you might lose your precious chats.

It is quite fascinating to experience new features on the upcoming versions of apps, but best not to take risks with apps you use on a daily basis, like WhatsApp.
