A report released earlier this week suggested that the forthcoming MediaTek Dimensity 8400 chipset will feature an all-big core architecture akin to the current high-performance MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC. These claims appear to be substantiated, as tipster Digital Chat Station has provided insights into the CPU architecture, indicating that it will be equipped with ARM’s high-performance cores.

MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Details

The MediaTek Dimensity 8400 is expected to incorporate an octa-core CPU structured in a 1+3+4 configuration. It will be manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm technology, featuring ARM’s Cortex A725 core, which is anticipated to operate at speeds exceeding 3GHz.

Not only Cortex A725, but MediaTek might also include three more cores, each clocked close to 3GHz but slightly lower than the main prime core. For lighter and simpler tasks, the chipset maker might use three ARM Cortex-A720 cores, which will be “premium efficiency” cores- that will be a notable upgrade from the Cortex A510 cores in the Dimensity 8300 chipset.

These A720 cores are said to operate around the 2.0GHz range to manage everyday processes with ease. Even the most powerful, Dimensity 9400 uses all these cores.

The graphics department might also see some similarities. The Dimensity 8400 will use the same GPU IP which will be Arm Immortalis G925, similar to Dimensity 9400. Whether it will have the same number of cores or not is shrouded in mystery, but DCS also claims that the SoC’s performance is still under optimization. The final clock speeds and performance figures might change.
