Valve has revealed a brand-new white colorway for the handheld gaming PC's OLED variant. However, interested buyers will have to snag the white Steam Deck OLED while they can as the model will have a limited production run.
Since its launch in early 2022, the Steam Deck has rarely been offered with colorways other than the standard black variant. Valve did introduce a translucent special edition with orange accents alongside the announcement of the Steam Deck OLED in November 2023, but this was only sold in certain regions in limited quantities. Therefore, Steam Deck fans who want to customize their handheld with different colors have to rely on skins and shells from third-party sellers. However, the Steam Deck's lack of color variations may change going forward
Over three years after teasing different Steam Deck color options, Valve has announced the Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White. The new limited-run colorway for the Steam Deck OLED features a white outer shell with gray buttons, joysticks, and triggers, but no spec improvements over the current black variant. Valve will also offer a bespoke white carrying case and microfiber cleaning cloth alongside the new Steam Deck model. Prospective buyers should note that the white Steam Deck OLED will only be available with 1TB of storage, and launches on November 18 at 3 PM PST / 6 PM ET for $679.

Goes on sale in every region where Steam Deck is already available through Valve
Although it'll be sold in limited quantities, the white Steam Deck OLED will be available in every region where the handheld already ships, as per Valve's official release. This stands in contrast to last year's translucent limited-edition Steam Deck OLED, which Valve says it released as an "experiment" to gauge interest for alternative colorways. The Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White is the company's "second experiment along those lines," and its demand will be closely assessed to evaluate future color variants for the Steam Deck.
The Steam Deck may be one of the oldest handheld gaming PCs on the market, but Valve's support for the system, both on a hardware and software level, remains as strong as ever. The gaming giant recently released a huge software update for Steam Deck users while it quietly chips away on the handheld's successor. Valve has confirmed that it's waiting for a comprehensive upgrade in chipset power and efficiency for the next generation of the Steam Deck, which could take quite a while. With AMD's Z2 Extreme chipset on the horizon, though, Valve's desired technological advancements for the Steam Deck 2 may not be that far out.
