Google has announced a host of new AI-powered features for Android smartphones. The list includes Expressive Captions and QR Codes in Quick Share.
Google is rolling out its first major update to Android 15 smartphones, adding new AI features to enhance Gemini and other apps like Google Drive. Here are all the new features coming to Android 15-powered smartphones this month.
This feature uses on-device AI to show tone, sounds, volume, and environment in video captions. Google says Expressive Captions are part of Live Captions and will appear on Android apps for video messages and streaming platforms.
Google is adding Image Q&A in its Lookout app, using Gemini 1. 5 Pro to create better captions for those with low vision. Android users can upload images for captions and ask follow-up questions. This feature is available to all Android users worldwide.
This feature allows you to create a new emoticon using existing ones. For example, combining the pizza emoji and a heart makes a new sticker. It's similar to Apple's Genmoji, but Emoji Kitchen is already available while Genmoji is not.
This feature simplifies sharing pictures, videos, and documents. To do it, select a file, tap the QR code, and have others scan it for secure transfer. It reduces tasks like adding contacts, verifying devices, or changing settings.
Google Drive now provides better scans that are clearer with automatic improvements for receipts, documents, or ID cards, enhancing contrast and reducing shadows. Just capture an image of physical documents, and the app will save a clear digital version in your preferred format.
Gemini on Android is adding new Extensions that work with favorite apps. The Spotify extension lets you play music and explore playlists. You can also make calls, send messages, set alarms, and manage device settings. Soon, you will control smart home devices linked to your Google Account and get more location info on Google Maps.
