Amazon, the global e-commerce giant, has announced a new 15-minute delivery service for everyday essentials in India. This initiative aims to compete with fast-delivery platforms like Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket.
The service will begin as a pilot program later this month in Bengaluru. This announcement was made by Samir Kumar, Country Manager of Amazon India, during the company’s flagship event, Smbhav, held in Delhi on December 10, 2024.
Kumar stated, "We will be starting a pilot to give our customers a choice to get their everyday essentials in 15 minutes or less."
Amazon plans to use its vast network and resources to offer quick deliveries while ensuring a wide range of products. According to Kumar, the company’s strategy revolves around "selection, value, and convenience," aiming to provide customers with the "largest selection at the fastest speeds and greatest value" across India.
The initiative comes shortly after Kumar assumed leadership in India, replacing former head Manish Tiwary.
Amazon is set to leverage its extenísive customer base, especially Prime Members, for this new service. Kumar expressed confidence that the initiative will meet the growing demand for instant deliveries.
The company also emphasized its commitment to helping small and medium-sized businesses thrive. Kumar reiterated founder Jeff Bezos’ belief that Amazon should ensure the growth of small enterprises alongside its own.
With this move, Amazon is entering the competitive instant-commerce market. Backed by its established infrastructure and customer trust, the company is poised to challenge existing players.
This service marks another step in Amazon’s efforts to enhance customer convenience while expanding its footprint in India’s e-commerce market.
