First announced at Reliance’s 47th annual general meeting (AGM), Jio has started to roll out 100 GB of cloud storage to all its customers––free of cost––as a part of the Jio AI Cloud Welcome offer. Jio prepaid and postpaid users can now use free 100 GB of cloud storage along with a host of AI features via the JioCloud app, available for Android and iOS devices, and also on the web.
JioCloud, which used to offer 5 GB of cloud storage, has been upgraded to 100 GB with no additional cost as a welcome offer. This, however, means that in the future, users might have to pay a subscription fee to continue using JioCloud services.
This is a massive move from Reliance, making JioCloud a better online content storage platform than the likes of Google Drive that offers 15 GB of free cloud storage, Apple iCloud that offers 5 GB of free cloud storage, and Microsoft OneDrive that offers 5 GB of free cloud storage per account. For 100 GB cloud storage, Google charges Rs 130 per month or Rs 1,300 per year. Apple charges Rs 219 per month for 200 GB of cloud storage.
To redeem the Jio AI Cloud welcome offer, make sure you have the latest version of the MyJio app. As soon as you open the app, there will be a pop-up highlighting the offer. If you can’t find that, there will be a banner that reads “100 GB cloud storage”. Click on that and your JioCloud account will get 100 GB of storage space. To make the most out of it, users need to download the free JioCloud app.
The JioCloud app also gets DigiLocker access, where one can also store government-issued documents like a driver’s license, Aadhaar, and other documents. Just like any other cloud storage platform, data stored on the JioCloud can be shared with friends and family as and when needed, and these files can be securely accessed on almost any device.
JioCloud also has several native AI capabilities, which include an AI document scanner that can automatically scan documents and store them in digital format. There is also an AI background remover tool that can remove the background of any image.
For now, JioCloud has a clear advantage over any other cloud storage providers in India. However, the only caveat of this platform is the future subscription charges. Since the company has not announced how much the charges will be, do think before using it, for migrating data later to another platform will be challenging.
