In 2008, artist Joshua Allen Harris gained attention for his innovative "Air Bear" project in New York City. He crafted a polar bear sculpture from white plastic grocery bags and attached it to a subway grating. When subway trains passed beneath, the rising air inflated the sculpture, bringing the bear to life.

At rest, the deflated sculpture resembled ordinary street litter. However, as trains approached, the gusts of air transformed it into a lifelike polar bear, surprising and delighting passersby. This dynamic interplay between urban infrastructure and art highlighted the city's vibrancy and unpredictability.

Harris's work not only showcased his creativity but also subtly commented on environmental issues. The choice of a polar bear—a species emblematic of climate change—crafted from discarded plastic bags, underscored themes of pollution and wildlife conservation.
