No tool or service can completely prevent your smartphone from being stolen. However, Android OS includes integrated tools that give you more control over your device and the personal data stored on it. With features like device tracking, remote locking, and the ability to erase personal data, Google’s new theft protection service is invaluable for securing your smartphone. Here’s how to enable it:

What is theft protection by Google?

Theft protection is a service by Google available on smartphones running Android 10 or newer versions. This built-in security feature helps safeguard and protect your personal data if your device is stolen.

This feature offers several layers of security, including:

Theft Detection Lock: If the phone detects that it has been snatched and someone is running away with it, the screen will automatically lock.

Offline Device Lock: If the device goes offline, the screen will lock automatically after a while, requiring a password to unlock it.

When enabled, this feature also allows users to lock the device remotely in case of theft. Additionally, users can locate and erase their devices using the Find My Device service.

By default, theft protection is disabled and must be enabled manually.
