Hi Questers,

Hope you guys are doing well and wishing the same ,Today let have an important information about inactive sim cards and their validity extension rules by TRAI.

TRAI has mandated new regulations to bring relief for telecom users in the country. You can now keep your SIM card active with a minimum prepaid balance of Rs 20 per month.

TRAI has enforced the Automatic Number Retention Scheme across all telecom operators in India, which includes Jio, Airtel, Vi, BSNL, and others.

As per TRAI's rules, if you do not use voice, data, SMS, and other services on your SIM card for 90 days, your SIM card will be disconnected if you do not have an active recharge. The telecom operator can deregister the number from your name and provide it to another customer.

You can prevent this by keeping a minimum balance of Rs 20 on your prepaid number. For example, if you do not use your SIM services for 90 days, Rs 20 will be deducted from your balance. This will extend the validity of your SIM card by 30 days.

After the 30-day extension, Rs 20 will be automatically deducted from your account every month. This cycle will keep repeating until you have enough prepaid balance. If you do not have enough balance, you will be given a 15-day grace period to top up your balance. If you fail to do a recharge, your telecom operator will deactivate your SIM card.

What About Incoming Calls and OTPs?

The new TRAI rules only apply to extend the validity of your SIM card for Rs 20 per month, i.e., a small fee to keep the number registered in your name. It does not specify anything about incoming and outgoing services. This decision is at the discretion of the telecom operator.

Hope this information useful for our Questers and now you guys can spend 20 4upees for the sim card to be active and do share you opinion on this new rule by TRAI.

Happy Questing,
