RTX 5090 Melting Cables: Some Nvidia RTX 5090 users are reporting melting power connectors, similar to issues seen with the RTX 4090.

Damage: The melting can damage the power cable, GPU, and even the power supply unit (PSU). One Reddit user reported a "burning smell" while gaming.

Possible Causes: While some blame third-party cables, a YouTuber experienced the same problem with a cable provided by a PSU maker. One analysis suggests uneven current distribution may lead to overheating.

Nvidia's Response: Nvidia previously attributed RTX 4090 melting issues to users not fully securing the 12VHPWR power connection.

Investigation: A damaged RTX 5090, cable, and PSU are under investigation to determine the root cause. One investigator found a single pin on the GPU's power socket showing damage and melting.

12VHPWR Connector: The 12VHPWR connector was introduced with the RTX 40-series GPUs, and updated to a 12V-2x6 version.
