Since the relaunch of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), many players have noticed a clear difference between it and PUBG Mobile—particularly in terms of updates, new content, and game features. While both games share the same core gameplay, BGMI updates arrive much later, and some features never even make it to the Indian version.

So, why does this happen? IGN India recently spoke with Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, to get some answers.

BGMI and PUBG Mobile Have Separate Development Teams

According to Sohn, the biggest reason behind the update delays is that BGMI and PUBG Mobile are developed by separate teams.

 “The development teams responsible for BGMI and PUBG Mobile are different, which is why there is no direct parity between the two games.”

This means that even though PUBG Mobile gets frequent updates with new maps, weapons, vehicles, and collaborations, BGMI follows a different release schedule due to its own development cycle.

Government Regulations and Compliance Issues

BGMI was relaunched under strict government regulations in India. Some major differences from PUBG Mobile include:

 Green blood effects instead of red

“Finished” text replacing “Killed”

Stricter playtime limits for underage players

Additional parental controls

Because of these requirements, Krafton needs extra time to ensure every update complies with Indian laws before releasing it in BGMI.

Krafton Knows Players Are Frustrated

Sohn acknowledged that many hardcore BGMI players are disappointed by the slower updates and missing features compared to PUBG Mobile. However, he explained that Krafton takes this approach intentionally due to the unique challenges of operating BGMI in India.

"I know BGMI players might not be happy that updates take longer, but we have to handle other issues between the two games first.”

Future Plans: BGMI Updates to Improve?

Despite the delays, Krafton is working to reduce the update gap between BGMI and PUBG Mobile. Sohn assured players that Krafton’s goal is to make BGMI better and more competitive while still following all necessary regulations.

“We are doing our best, and we hope to improve BGMI beyond its current state.”
