NPCI Warns of Call Merging Scam Targeting OTP Theft

Have you ever gotten a call from someone pretending to be a friend, asking you to merge the call with another number? Watch out! This could be a trick to steal your money. It's a new scam called "call merging," and it's targeting your bank accounts.

How the Scam Works :

Imagine this: A stranger calls, acting like someone you know. They say they need you to merge their call with another person. What you don't know is that the other person is actually your bank calling you with a secret code (OTP) to confirm a purchase or transfer. The crook tricks you into sharing that secret code, and boom! They can now steal money from your account.

How to Stay Safe :

✅Don't merge calls from strangers: If you don't know the person, don't merge calls. It's that simple.

✅Never share OTPs over the phone: Your bank never asks for your OTP over the phone. If someone does, it's a scam.

✅Be suspicious of unexpected calls: If you get a call out of the blue asking for personal information, be very careful.

✅Tell your bank if something looks wrong: If you get a message about a purchase you

didn't make, contact your bank immediately.

Remember: Your OTP is like a key to your bank account. Keep it secret! Don't let anyone trick you into sharing it.
