NewMicrosoft often rolls out new features and security updates for Windows PCs, but the company’s latest cumulative updates are now removing the Copilot app on Windows PCs.

The issue stems from the KB5053598 and KB5053606 cumulative updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11, which were issued last week on March 11. While Microsoft is yet to clarify as to why the new update is removing Copilot from Windows PCs, the company has acknowledged the issue.

It is yet to add the issue to the Windows release health dashboard, which the company uses to notify users of ongoing bugs and issues affecting supported Windows versions. However, Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and said that they are currently working on a fix. In the meantime, affected users are advised to reinstall the Copilot app from Microsoft Store and pin it back to the taskbar if they want to.

This is not the first time Microsoft has removed Copilot. In June last year, the company had accidentally added a Copilot shortcut on some Windows systems with a buggy Edge update. A few months ago, the tech giant added the Copilot app to Windows Server 2025 preview builds, but later removed it after backlash from Windows admins.

Microsoft recently announced that it will soon be rolling out a new version of Copilot with a new press-to-talk feature that can be activated by pressing Alt + Spacebar for two seconds. The tech giant is also reportedly developing new AI reasoning models, which could someday compete and potentially replace OpenAI’s offerings.
