Every year, the semiconductor industry pushes the limits of performance, efficiency, and innovation. With advancements in manufacturing technology, CPU/GPU architecture, and strategic design choices, companies are constantly in a race to redefine the benchmark for mobile processors.

According to industry insiders, Qualcomm is preparing to launch two new Snapdragon 8 series platforms—SM8850 and SM8845—in the second half of this year. Both will leverage TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process and incorporate Qualcomm’s self-developed Nuvia architecture.

The SM8850, officially named Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, is Qualcomm’s flagship upgrade. However, the naming of SM8845 remains undisclosed. Leaks suggest that SM8845 is a custom SoC, jointly developed with a manufacturer, optimized for high-cost performance. Its benchmark results will likely be slightly lower than the SM8850, making it a more affordable alternative.

A recent leak from DCS confirms that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (SM8850) will be built on TSMC’s advanced third-generation 3nm process (N3P) and will feature Qualcomm’s in-house Oryon CPU architecture. The chipset will sport two super cores, six large cores, and an Adreno 840 GPU, delivering a significant leap in performance.

Adding to its capabilities, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will support SME1/SVE2 instructions, which enhance CPU efficiency for AI and multimedia tasks. This optimization translates to higher processing power with lower average power consumption, a crucial factor for next-gen mobile devices.

Early performance estimates place the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2’s AnTuTu benchmark score at around 3.8 million points, a massive leap over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite. If these numbers hold, it could be Qualcomm’s most powerful mobile chip yet, setting new industry standards.

Meanwhile, MediaTek is also preparing to launch two new Dimensity 9 series processors—Dimensity 9500 and Dimensity 9450, signaling intense competition in the flagship SoC market.

With both Qualcomm and MediaTek set to introduce their latest innovations, the second half of the year promises to be an exciting battleground for mobile performance supremacy.
