Hello guys, this is Sourav, and it is yet another summer! Remember those days when we just plugged in our retro consoles and played classic games all day? An essential part of all of this was Metal Slug!
But, nobody remembers it now, so what happened to it? Lets dive into todays detailed analysis of Metal Slug!
CHAPTER 1: The Birth of Metal Slug (1996-2000)
Metal Slug (1996) burst onto the scene with jaw-dropping pixel art, tight controls, and high-speed run-and-gun action. The sequels Metal Slug X and Metal Slug 3 refined the gameplay, adding crazy transformations, vehicles, and new enemies, making it a true arcade classic.
CHAPTER 2: More of the Same (2001-2006)
The sequels Metal Slug 4, 5 & 6 kept the action alive but started feeling repetitive. The gameplay was still fun, but innovation slowed down. Fans loved the chaos, but SNK wasn’t pushing the franchise forward.
CHAPTER 3: The Decline (2007-2010)
SNK tried to evolve the series with Metal Slug 7 and XX, but the magic was fading. The same old formula with minimal upgrades made players feel like they were replaying the past.
CHAPTER 4: Mobile & Cash Grabs (2011-2020)
Metal Slug shifted to mobile with games like Metal Slug Attack, leaning heavily into microtransactions and gacha mechanics. The arcade thrill was gone, and fans lost hope.
CHAPTER 5: Can Metal Slug Make a Comeback? (2024 & Beyond!)
YES! SNK announced Metal Slug Tactics, but fans still want a real return to form—a true Metal Slug sequel with hand-drawn animations, chaotic co-op, and over-the-top action. If games like Cuphead & Huntdown can succeed, why not Metal Slug?
