Book 1: The Hunger Games

Katniss Everdeen, a brave 16-year-old from District 12, volunteers to take her sister Prim’s place in the deadly Hunger Games. She and the male tribute, Peeta Mellark, must survive the brutal arena, where only one can live. Katniss uses her skills and intelligence to survive, and she and Peeta pretend to be in love to gain support from the audience. In the end, they both survive by threatening to eat poison berries—forcing the Capitol to let them both win.

Book 2: Catching Fire

Katniss becomes a symbol of rebellion. The Capitol is angry about her defiance, so she and Peeta are forced back into another deadly version of the Games called the Quarter Quell, which includes previous winners. They survive again, but Katniss is rescued by rebels and taken to District 13, a hidden district preparing to fight the Capitol.

Book 3: Mockingjay

Katniss becomes the "Mockingjay", the face of the revolution. A full war begins against the Capitol. Katniss struggles with loss, love, and trust. In the end, the rebels win, President Snow is overthrown, and a new government begins. But Katniss is traumatized by all she’s seen.
