Raid 2 brings back Ajay Devgn as Amay Patnaik, the fearless income tax officer who once impressed us with his silent strength and honesty. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the sequel tries to build on the success of the original 2018 film but ends up feeling repetitive and over-the-top.
This time, the story is set during the V.P. Singh era. Amay is transferred to a fictional town called Bhoj, where he starts investigating a popular and seemingly clean politician, Dada Manohar Bhai, played by Riteish Deshmukh. While the plot has potential, the execution lacks freshness. The thrill of raids and the hunt for black money, which made the first film so engaging, doesn’t create the same excitement here.
Riteish Deshmukh, known for lighter roles, struggles to make an impact as the villain. His character feels flat, especially compared to Saurabh Shukla’s brilliant performance in the first movie. Even Shukla’s short appearance in Raid 2 reminds us of what’s missing.
Vaani Kapoor plays Amay’s wife but doesn’t get much screen time or importance. Supporting actors like Amit Sial and Yashpal Sharma bring some life to the film with solid performances, but it’s not enough to lift the overall experience.
The film also tries to make political statements but doesn’t go deep enough. Female characters are barely involved, and the public is shown as blindly following leaders. In the end, Raid 2 feels more like a loud lecture or a promotion for government schemes rather than a powerful story about fighting corruption.
Verdict: Raid 2 has a few moments, but it fails to match the sharp storytelling and emotional grip of the original. Watch it only if you're a big Ajay Devgn fan.
