Doom: The Dark Ages, developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing 3 million players within a week of its release on May 15, 2025. This accomplishment marks it as the most successful launch in id Software's history, reaching this player count seven times faster than its predecessor, Doom Eternal.

Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC, the game is also accessible through Xbox Game Pass, contributing to its widespread reach. On Steam, it recorded a peak concurrent player count of over 31,000, indicating strong engagement across platforms.

Set as a prequel to the 2016 Doom and Doom Eternal, Doom: The Dark Ages introduces players to a medieval-inspired world where they embody the Doom Slayer in a battle against the forces of Hell. The game emphasizes grounded, brutal combat with new weapons like the Shield Saw and Skull Crusher, and features such as piloting massive Atlan mechs and riding fire-breathing dragons.

Critics have generally responded positively, praising its innovative approach and immersive gameplay. With plans for post-launch support, including story expansions and community events, Doom: The Dark Ages is poised to maintain its momentum in the gaming community.
