HIT: The Third Case is the latest entry in the gripping HIT universe, directed by Sailesh Kolanu. This Telugu-language action thriller takes the franchise to new psychological depths, driven by a gritty, morally complex narrative and a standout performance by Nani as SP Arjun Sarkaar. Set after the events of HIT: The Second Case, the story explores the darkness within both crime and justice, diving deep into the mind of a cop who chooses an unconventional, and at times disturbing, path to infiltrate a deadly dark web cult.
Nani delivers a powerful performance as the unrelenting and layered Arjun Sarkaar—a man willing to blur ethical boundaries for a greater cause. His portrayal balances ferocity with vulnerability, especially in emotionally tense moments involving his love interest Mrudula (played convincingly by Srinidhi Shetty). Their relationship, initially charming and traditional, evolves into a compelling subplot with a twist that adds emotional weight to the narrative. The film also benefits from strong supporting performances by Komalee Prasad, Ravindra Vijay, and Prateik Babbar, the latter portraying the cult leader Alpha with chilling conviction.
The plot takes some bold risks, particularly in its moral ambiguity. The idea of a cop committing murders to expose a larger evil is unsettling yet thought-provoking. The screenplay uses flashbacks effectively to maintain suspense, slowly peeling back the layers of Arjun's plan. The dark web cult “CTK” is terrifying in concept—its crimes grotesque yet disturbingly believable, with a sinister twist involving organ trafficking and pharmaceutical exploitation. This blend of crime thriller and investigative noir is a hallmark of the HIT franchise, and The Third Case builds well on its predecessors.
Visually, the film is atmospheric, with cinematographer Sanu Varghese capturing the chilling mood of forests, interrogation rooms, and the haunting Burmese palace where the cult operates. The action sequences are raw and brutal, aligning with the film's darker tone. Mickey J. Meyer's music is subtle but effective, heightening tension where needed without overpowering scenes. Editor Karthika Srinivas ensures the film moves briskly, although the second act occasionally sags under the weight of exposition.
Despite its gripping concept and immersive execution, the film is not without flaws. The narrative can feel overstuffed with twists, and some might find the justification for Arjun's vigilante acts morally problematic or overly dramatized. The film also tries to tie up multiple threads and teases future installments, which slightly dilutes the climax's impact.
Nevertheless, HIT: The Third Case is a bold, compelling thriller that deepens the HIT cinematic universe with style and substance. Its themes of justice, sacrifice, and the cost of duty are powerfully conveyed, making it a memorable addition to the franchise. With its mid-credits tease of a new lead in HIT Tamil Nadu, fans can be assured that the journey is far from over.
Rating: 3.5/5
Strong performances and an ambitious plot elevate this dark thriller, even if it occasionally buckles under its own weight.
