Space isn't just strange — it's rich.
On some planets, it could literally rain diamonds from the sky. 👇
🪐 How is this possible?
Neptune and Uranus have extremely high pressures and temperatures deep within their atmospheres.
These gas giants are rich in methane (CH₄) — a carbon-based molecule.
🌩️ Under intense pressure, methane breaks apart, and the carbon atoms re-form into diamonds.
💎 The result?
Scientists believe diamond crystals form and fall like rain, possibly even sinking toward the planet’s core.
Some diamonds may be millimeters wide — others could be kilograms in size.
🧪 Bonus:
In 2017, researchers recreated this effect in a lab using powerful lasers.
They successfully formed tiny diamonds under conditions mimicking Neptune’s atmosphere.
So yeah — while we dream of finding gold…
the outer planets may already be showering diamonds in secret.
