As cases of cybercriminal activity continue to rise, a new concern has arisen with regard to false SIM card registration. Considered as a common concern these days, unauthorised SIM card activations using someone’s identity documents have plagued innocent citizens around the world. Fortunately, the Indian government’s Sanchar Saathi portal provides a simple and secure method to verify all mobile connections issued under your name.
This new initiative by the Indian government helps combat fraud and ensures transparency in mobile service registrations. This proactive step can prevent misuse of your identity and fraudulent activities. Hence, it is highly recommended that every individual periodically check the number of active SIM cards linked to their Aadhaar or other identity proofs.
Whether you have a Jio or Airtel mobile connection, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to check for mobile connections registered in your name using the Sanchar Saathi portal.
✅– Open your web browser and navigate to the official Sanchar Saathi portal.
✅– Once on the homepage, locate the ‘Citizen Centric Services’ section. Within this section, click on the option titled ‘Know Your Mobile Connections.
✅– You will be prompted to enter your 10-digit mobile number. This should be a number currently active and registered in your name. Below that, carefully enter the provided captcha code to proceed.
✅– After submitting your mobile number and the captcha, you will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on the mobile number you provided. Enter this OTP into the designated field on the portal.
✅– Once the OTP is successfully verified, you will be logged into the portal. The system will then display a comprehensive list of all mobile numbers registered against your identity documents, such as your Aadhaar.
✅– From this list, you can identify any connections that you do not recognise or have not authorised. The portal also provides options to report such unauthorised numbers for deactivation, helping you secure your identity and prevent potential fraud.
Regularly checking this portal is a simple yet effective way to protect yourself in an increasingly connected world.
