Dune: Awakening Sells 1 Million Copies, Becomes Funcom’s Fastest-Selling Game
Dune: Awakening, the open-world survival MMO based on Frank Herbert’s legendary sci-fi universe, has officially sold over 1 million copies within weeks of its June 10 launch on Steam. Developer Funcom announced the milestone in an open letter to players, celebrating the game as the fastest-selling title in the company’s history. For comparison, it took Funcom’s previous hit Conan Exiles nearly a year to reach the same number.
Set on the harsh desert world of Arrakis, Dune: Awakening challenges players to survive sandstorms, deadly threats, and the ever-present danger of sandworms in a vast, multiplayer open world. The game has received praise for its immersive design, intense survival mechanics, and faithful representation of the Dune universe.
Player engagement has been strong, with Dune: Awakening peaking at nearly 190,000 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB. It’s also among the platform’s top 10 most played titles in the past 24 hours. Funcom shared an infographic detailing in-game statistics and celebrated the community’s creativity, from base-building and epic vehicle stunts to heroic in-game moments.
In response to community feedback, Funcom confirmed that upcoming updates will allow PvE-focused players to enjoy end-game content without the need for PvP conflict, ensuring a more accessible experience for all playstyles.
“We're truly humbled and thankful for this reception,” said Funcom. “Launch has been a Coriolis storm, and we're still riding that mighty gale.”
While currently available only on PC via Steam, Dune: Awakening is planned to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2026, further expanding its reach. With a strong launch and an evolving roadmap, the game is poised to become a long-term staple for both survival fans and Dune enthusiasts alike.
