Beginning July 1, individuals looking to book Tatkal train tickets through the IRCTC website must have their Aadhaar linked to their IRCTC profile. Indian Railways has advised travelers to connect their Aadhaar numbers with their IRCTC accounts to prevent any disruptions. Meanwhile, the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and IRCTC have been directed to carry out the necessary system updates and notify all Zonal Railways and concerned departments about the changes.

The Railway Ministry stated that the changes are aimed at “promoting fair and transparent access to Tatkal tickets while protecting the rights of genuine passengers.”

To prevent bulk bookings during the critical opening period, authorised ticketing agents of Indian Railways will not be permitted to book opening-day tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window. For AC classes, this restriction applies from 10.00am to 10.30am, and for non-AC classes, from 11.00am to 11.30 am,” the ministry stated.

If your Aadhaar is not yet linked to your IRCTC account, follow these steps to complete the process:

1.Log in to your IRCTC account on the official website.

2.Navigate to the “Profile” tab and select the “Link Aadhaar” option.

3.Enter your Aadhaar number and your name exactly as mentioned on the Aadhaar card.

4.Authenticate the information by entering the OTP received on your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.

Alongside digital bookings, the Ministry has also arranged for offline Tatkal ticket reservations. A spokesperson stated, “Tatkal tickets purchased at computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters or via authorised agents will now need OTP verification sent to the mobile number shared by the passenger during booking.” This new rule will also be enforced starting July 15.
