In India, telecom providers offer Mobile Number Portability (MNP), allowing users to change their mobile network without altering their existing phone number. However, the porting process with many service providers can be tedious, often involving multiple steps and interactions with customer support just to track the porting status. Additionally, users may encounter service disruptions, lengthy paperwork, and a lack of clear guidance, all of which can make switching to a new operator unnecessarily complicated.
If a user is unhappy with their current telecom service provider or has any other reason to switch, Mobile Number Portability (MNP) enables them to move their number to a different operator. The process ensures that the user retains the same mobile number even after changing to a new network.
Step 1: Send SMS: PORT to 1900 to get a Unique Porting Code (UPC).
Step 2: Download and log in to the Airtel Thanks app, or visit the Airtel website/store.
Step 3: Select your Airtel postpaid plan and submit your port-in request with the UPC and required details.
Step 4: An Airtel executive will deliver your new SIM and verify your identity/address proofs.
Step 5: Insert the new SIM; your number will be activated on Airtel within 48 hours.
Step 1: SMS PORT <10-digit mobile number> to 1900 from your existing mobile number
Step 2: You will receive an SMS that will contain the UPC (Unique Porting Code) and its expiry date.

Step 4: Carry your original Aadhaar Card or original Proof of Address (POA)/Proof of Identity (POI) to place an MNP request.
