Android Gets Personal with 'Calling Cards'

Google is apparently taking a page from Apple's book, with strong signs that Android will soon get a new feature called "Calling Cards." This upcoming function, found by digging into the Google Contacts app's code, looks a lot like iOS 17's "Contact Posters." It aims to make incoming calls more visually interesting and personal.

Right now, Calling Cards are still being developed, but they're expected to let Android users change how their contact info looks on the other person's screen when they call. Hints in the code suggest users will be able to use full-screen pictures and custom fonts, turning the usual call screen into a lively display of their personality. This goes beyond just a small profile picture, offering a much richer visual experience.

While Google hasn't officially said anything about "Calling Cards" or when they'll launch, the findings from the code teardowns are pretty convincing. If released, this feature could really improve the Android user experience, adding a much-needed touch of individuality to a part of smartphone use that's usually pretty static. It's a clear sign that Google wants to bring more expressive and good-looking elements to the core functions of its mobile operating system, bringing those "iPhone vibes" but with Android's trademark openness.
