Microsoft has introduced MAI-DxO (Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator), a new AI tool designed to tackle complex medical diagnoses. Trained on 304 challenging real-world cases, it achieved an 85.5% accuracy rate—over four times higher than experienced physicians (20%)—when tested on cases from the New England Journal of Medicine.

The system uses a “chain of debate” approach and a virtual panel of five AI agents, each simulating a specialist's role. Built using models from OpenAI, Google, Meta, and others, MAI-DxO aims to ease doctors’ workloads and push toward “medical superintelligence.”

Microsoft is now working with healthcare partners to validate the tool before clinical use, emphasizing the need for further testing and regulation.
